About - Tom Gower
Early Years
I always loved creating art, and then in my early twenties, I took my passion very seriously. I began to study the concepts of color theory, linear and abstraction. I then combined those ideas with what I see and feel, using the pastel medium such as with "Morning Mist".
Middle Years
Sketch
A life changing event happened to me, after 32 years, I was reunited with my Cree birth family! I journeyed on self-discovery, learned about my Cree culture and values. A new world opened up for me, I went to college and university. I got my degree in law. I also honed my drawing skills, and thought about mathematics. For artistic creations, I did mostly drawing, but then near the end of the decade I wanted to combine my love for pen and ink with pastels. I started to intentionally create feeling in my art such as with The Spirit of the Wild Daisy.
Recent Years
I started to take the issues that matter to me more seriously like communication. I became more aware of events that led up to World War II, which compelled me to make a piece like The Tribulation. To discuss topics such as The Unfair Game vs The Fairer Game, in turn to consider how MATHS could model events or measure thought. In the flow of information, like mass media (mainstream media), the internet provides a wider information perspective (The Fairer Game) for the public. As a result, could make people more informed in their understanding of complicated issues, which in turn would make them less likely to go along with false narratives. Also I wanted to create art with a medium and style that I hadn't done before. I explored collage, and symbolism from the Symbolist Perspective. And learned a better understanding of composition like juxtaposition. I then combined my new art style creating a statement of the times such as with Monument to humanity.
Present
I was very happy with the look of collage but I realized I hadn't yet took on abstract creations. And then I did a sketch called Fried Egg Nebula, a portion of it got transformed into curvilinear abstracts. Using a constructivist method, the designs are balanced symmetrically by using a color palette and shape. At the same time, movement and expression with curves. I felt I finally completed the ground work which included compelling artwork and abstract designs to make my presence more known to the public.
